The Power of a Personal Brand

We are living in the age of authenticity. In days gone by it was celebrities that were considered personal brands. Now everyday consumers are turning themselves into personal brands.

Connect with Your consumers through authenticity and transparency

Creating a personal brand is a great way of setting yourself apart in today's market showcasing who you are, even when you're not present, through sharing your story, your personality, your value and your attributes. It enables you to connect with your audience in a far more authentic way and it provides you with a distinctive point of difference versus your competitors. After all, nobody does you as well as you do.

How to change your output

Personal branding covers all touchpoints – from your content to your brand story, your videos, podcasts, and your photography. It's simple to build from scratch but difficult to change once set. Many people focus on being themselves when starting to build their personal brand, but a brand isn't something that simply develops organically. Like a company brand, it needs a clear strategy, and it must be consistent. Your story can play an important role in establishing or boosting your business. It should highlight your strengths, reputation and communicate the assets that you bring to your industry.

Prime examples for experts in personal branding are Gordon Ramsay, Elon Musk, and Richard Branson. They have imprinted their personalities globally, having a strong personal brand has enabled them to extend their brand across different sectors. Gordon Ramsay has restaurants, cookbooks, TV shows and is renowned for being a very vocal chef. Richard Branson has founded more than 400 companies in various fields from airlines to cosmetics.

Here are a few points to consider when building your personal brand:

Understand why you’re building a personal brand and why you want to be successful – having a clear foundation is key.

Understand PIE – Performance, Image, and Exposure. Performance is fundamental, of course. You need to deliver quality results in your work. Image is about what other people think of you—it’s your personal brand. And exposure, is about making sure that people know who you are and what you stand for as well as the results you deliver.

Build a strong brand story - It’s important that you develop a deep understanding of your brand personality and personal brand identity and how you will stand out from your competitors.
